CHOOSING A BREEDER

Do your research and make sure you are aquiring a dog from a  reputable breeder. Quality comes from the knowledge the breeder has of their breeds standard, qualities, health issues, health clearances, and correct tempraments {especially both breeds} 

A Newfoundland is a WET Mouthed breed.  It is neccesary for the breed to have a 'wet' mouth due to what the breed was bred for...Water Work. 

Other breed registries {Continental Kennel Club, NKC} are where many Back Yard Breeders (BYB's), Puppy Mills and Pet Stores get their dogs from. Save a Rescue or a 'pound puppy' before you ever willingly spend money on a Continental KC, NKC, etc registered / bred dog.

These registries allow Mixed breed (Mutts) 'Doodles', -oodles, Ultra Small or Mini's in some breeds,which by AKC Standard do not Allow Ultra mini's) which are not recognized World Wide in ANY registry and are NOT considered Pure Bred dogs.

My Grandson, Hunter, who Loves dogs  Pyrs & Newfs are Wonderful family dogs. Hunter also loves to share 'his' dog toys.

 A little about us  .....  I started in dogs about 15 years ago with my 'ex'-mother-in-law, who raised & showed Champion, Specialty winning and Multi-group placing Bullmastiffs (Evangeline's). Karen is still a beloved friend and family member to us all.            

     ~ Shortly after I met Steve and we began our love for dogs together. I decided to take him to his first dog show to show him what I would like to have. Which was a Great Pyrenees...but there in all their fur and glory was the Newfoundland.  It was love at first sight for him.  Not being able to agree on a newf or pyr when ended up with Both incredible breeds.  Hence the name 'Chekrdflags' ~ black & white - plus we are avid NASCAR fans.

       In the last three years, we have finished seven dogs, four in 2007. Including Ch. Newf Mermaid Yardo, who is now back home in France with his owner, Sandrine, who is also Doby & Azrael's breeder. With much success early on we strive to continue with the quality of dogs we have and encourage new comers, new owners and support our breeds entirely.

         One of our many concerns with our breeds is health of our breeds and public breed Education.  Without the proper owner education both breeds end up in rescue or in the hands of owners who 'don't know what they got themselves into', get lost in grooming, care, uneducated or poor breeding ethics. 

We OFA all of our dogs & test all of our dogs for proper health clearances.
